Ao Wong Duan is proberbly Koh Samet's second most popular beach. It is not quite atractive as Hat Sai Kaew, but the 500 meter long cresent shaped beach make it popular with day trippers and tours. The standard of accomodation on this part of Koh Samet is in most parts more attractive and better kept than on many of the other beaches. Maybe due to the properties being newer! Rooms are more expensive here so this is not the place to go if you are a backpacker.
The beach is fairly long and broad, with the main part having a lot of bars and tourist type shops. The central part of the beach is often submerged a high tide so check out the times, and get a good spot. Local facilities include small minimarkets, motorcycle rental, currency exchange, internet and overseas call service. There is also a manned police box.
A free highlight is that it offers the most fantastic sunrise on this island. The sand is as inviting as on Hat Sai Kaew and the atmosphere here is really pleasant and relaxed. It seems the longer you stay, the less you want to leave!
